The ‘D’ drops

There are two kinds of people in this world: those that loveTenacious Dand those that don’t.

If you are in the latter, this album probably isn’t for you.

Tenacious D, the LA duo composed of actor/singer Jack Black and lead guitarist Kyle Gass released thier first album this past week.

The result is the funniest and most rocking record of the year.

Their 22 song debut album features such accomplished musicians as Dave Grohl of Nirvana/Foo Fighters fame, Page McConnell of Phish, and the Dust Brothers.

This album kicks off with a song called “Kielbasa.” You can probably guess what male body part this song is about. This is definitely a hilarious song, one of my favorites on the album.

Song number three on the album is “Tribute.” This song is a tribute to Stairway to Heaven, by Led Zeppelin. It has elements from that song throughout.

Some lyrics to this song are: “Well needless to say, the beast was stunned, he cracked with his whoopy tail, and the beast was done, he asked us be you angels, we said nay, we are but men of rock, this is not the greatest song in the world, this is just a tribute.” This is another really great song, even though they sing about nothing at all.

The album’s standout, the sixth track, can’t even have its title printed in The Mirror. Let’s just say that it is THE anti top 40 love song. If you aren’t going to buy this album, at least try to get this one for your Winamp player.

Love lorn violins have never sounded so perverted.

Other great songs on this cd are: “Double Team,” “Rock Your Socks Off,” Drive-Thru,” and “Karate.”

While these guys are funny, they can actually play some music too. If you are tired of musicians complaining about how horrible their life is, then you need to listen to Tenacious D. If your having a bad day, these guys will have you laughing in a matter of minutes.

While the D may not play your average music, they are committed to all of the great rock myths and rules.

Rock hard, play hard and get up at the crack of noon.

Hopefully, what this album will do is spark an interest in pop culture that is actually funny.

In a perfect world run by the D, Mr. Show (where Tenacious D got their first national attention) would return to HBO, Saturday Night Live would be seen as the sham that it is, and the D would reign supreme on radio stations across the USA.

While that might be wishing thinking, its an important lesson theD preaches, anything else is a cosmic shame.

On a five star scale, I’d give this cd four and a half, because it is so funny.
