To the Editor:
I would think that the truth would be much more appreciated by prospective students as well as the parents of these students.
Let’s say you’re an incoming freshman. During your tour of the campus several months beforehand, your guide painted a beautiful, ideal picture of Fairfield—a Utopia of educational bliss.
However, upon your arrival you find your dream college to be the complete antithesis of your expectations (and the expectations of your parents).
A tour guide should be honest and informative. The purpose of a campus tour given by a current student is to provide prospective freshmen with a student’s point of view. Well, that’s what I thought.
The information that Sean Hayes provided in his tours was apparently information the student felt was pertinent to his/her decision of whether or not to attend this university.
The tour guides should AID the students with this decision rather than confuse them with a lot of rhetoric.
I’m pretty sure incoming students would like to know what they’re getting into before they put down the money for an education.
If the idiom “liar, liar, pants on fire” holds any weight in this argument, I’m afraid there may be a few tour guides with charred Jockeys.
Sincerely,
Kristen Romanelli ’03
