Crappy cop show pretty funny as a movie

Let's be honest: no one on this campus has ever seen an episode of the original "Starsky and Hutch." Why? Because, most of us weren't even a thought in our parents' inebriated minds as they watched the original ABC series while they were in college in the 70s.

A look at the other side of campus media: WVOF

There is only one radio station where shows like "In Da Mixx," "Gospel Essence," "Who's Partying" and "Polish Heritage" come together. WVOF 88.5 is composed of roughly 300 students, members of the community and alumni hosting over 50 shows ranging from contemporary, rock and urban.

A look at the other side of campus media: Ham Channel

Pork, it's what's for dinner! But for Fairfield students, it may also be what's on television. Yes, Fairfield's student television channel does sometimes refer to its studio as a pigsty, and their mascot is an oversized furry pink pig, but the club actually has very little to do with bacon.

Bands on the run

Now more than ever, it seems that musicians are no longer interested in being tied down to a single band. Musicians are using different side bands as musical projects to explore different sounds and musical concepts. In the world of rock, there are a plethora of artists who seek refuge in taking timeouts from their main gigs.

The best music Fairfield isn’t listening to

Dave Mathews Band. Jack Johnson. Ben Harper. These are a few of the most beloved acts that Fairfield students seem to thrive off of year after year. They play a crucial role inside "the Fairfield bubble," as I like to call it, and devotion to them will probably be a requirement for admission in the near future.

QUESTION OF THE WEEK, faculty style: ‘Passion of the Christ’ reactions

Robert Cortegiano Campus Ministry Chaplain I walked out on "The Passion" because of the traumatic violence. Mel Gibson seems more interested in portraying brutal torture scenes than presenting anything about the person and message of Jesus. This is a religious horror movie, a spiritually exploitative film that wants to scare us into believing the Gospel Message with each flesh-tearing blow to Jesus' back and each bone-crushing nail that bound Him to the cross.

In ‘The Passion’ the story of Christ gets blurred by blood

The hype surrounding "The Passion of Christ" convinced me to go see the new Mel Gibson movie based on the last twelve hours of Christ's life. I found this rendition to be not only disturbing, but extremely disappointing. While its director Mel Gibson claimed to be on a religious mission, it seemed to me that he sensationalized and used the shock factor to woo the masses, just like any other blockbuster film.

Spring Break… via the New Jersey Turnpike

Cancun. Bahamas. Cayman Islands. New Jersey. Can you guess which destination I'll be spending my spring break? I'll give you a hint: the closest thing to a body of water is the hardly pristine Hudson River, and my only hope of catching some rays is standing underneath a tanning lamp.

EDITORIAL: Cheers and boos

Cheers to Doug Perlitz '92 for staying in Haiti to continue his mission helping poor children in the face of increasing violence and political unrest. Living in one of the wealthiest and most peaceful parts of the world, it is sometimes easy for us to lose sight of social injustice around the globe.

SHE SAID: Guess how many boobs I saw today? Spring Break ’04

I don't know about you, but I have had a countdown going for spring break since about Christmas time. Finally, it's here. Now, most of you are probably joining the rest of Fairfield and heading to Acapulco, which is fine. Wherever alcohol will be flowing faster than the Colorado rapids, and where I can be surrounded by all of my closest friends works for me.
