When I came to Fairfield's Parents' Weekend with my parents when I was in tenth grade and my brother was a senior here, I thought Fairfield looked like a great school. Nice people, great performing arts center, close proximity to the beach. In my mind, Fairfield was missing only one thing: a women's ice hockey team.

Concerning the historical religiosity associated with Halloween, it is fascinating how society, or should I say college students, have managed to put a sexual spin on a holiday which originated in Europe more than 2,000 years ago. To clarify, when I say "sexual spin," I am discussing the ample array of non-conforming costumes that can be seen throughout this institution.

Tackling tough topics through peer education

Sexual abuse. Stress. Alcohol abuse. Body issues. Drug Abuse. Students are finding strength in numbers as more than 100 of them band together to tackle intense issues like these and promote healthier choices on campus. The Peer Education Network has brought together groups like Women's Circle, Women's Wisdom, SADD, Men Organized To End Violence, and their own Peer Educators in a forum where members of all groups can work together toward a common goal.

Halloween fright fest scaring up funds

Press Release Ghouls and goblins of all ages are invited to the Second Annual Halloween Fright Fest at the Community Theatre on Sunday, Oct. 30.   This all-day film festival, sponsored by Media Wave of Fairfield, is free to the public.  Funds raised through concession sales will benefit the Community Theatre Foundation, located at 1424 Post Road in downtown Fairfield.

Hollywood has run out of ideas, especially in the horror department. Instead of thinking of new and original ways to scare people, directors have decided to revive old movies. When the amount of original horror films in the past five years can be counted on one hand, one has to wonder: Why is Hollywood creating all these remakes?
