Although “No Strings Attached” seemed like a cliché chick flick from the previews, I was still really excited to see it.  I had this innate feeling–maybe it wouldn’t be horribly cheesy and predictable—and when I sat down in the theaters and the movie started rolling, I was pretty spot on.

The movie, starring hunky Ashton Kutcher and gorgeous Natalie Portman, tells a tale of a well known-cliché: “You don’t know what you have until it’s gone”.  However, Adam (Kutcher) and Emma (Portman), along with hilarious friends and supporting actors Wallace (Ludacris), Patrice (Greta Gerwig), Lucy (Lake Bell) and many others, seem to take the tacky idea and turn it into an unpredictable, emotional and hysterical film.

Adam, who endures some pretty crazy family issues, turns toward sex for therapy.  After calling every girl in his phonebook on one drunken night in hopes of getting laid, he wakes up the next morning at the apartment of Emma, who is a close friend from college, to find himself butt naked, but did not do the deed. It isn’t until the two begin to talk that the story begins, and they find themselves in a ‘friends with benefits’ relationship until one of them realizes they want more.

Even though the plot is somewhat overused, the actors provide you with enough comedy that you will find yourself anxious to see what happens, but not completely bored.

Portman and Kutcher are also extremely convincing and have particularly good chemistry onscreen, which only makes the situation more enjoyable.  Portman, who can be seen twirling around in “Black Swan”, shows her amazing acting abilities by having two enormously different roles in theaters at the same time and acing both parts.  As for Kutcher, you will only fall in love with him more when he brings you romance along with charm, and of course, his undeniable humor.

So, if you’re looking for a light-hearted romantic comedy, definitely head to “No Strings Attached” with the girls or on a date night. And for those who are in a ‘friends with benefits’ relationship, take heed when seeing this movie; it may just change your mind.
