Both the men’s and women’s cross country teams traveled to Twin Ponds New York to take part in the Jasper Fall XC Invitational.
First-year Hannah Snayd followed up her dominant first week of her collegiate career after earning Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference runner of the week due to her win at Marist’s season opener, with a fifth place finish in the women’s 6k out of 143 competitors with a time of 21:00.2 according to the official results of the event. Stony Brook’s Grace Weigele took first place with a time of 20:24.2 just edging Fordham’s Katarina Birimac who finished with a time of 20.25.6. Rachel St. Germain from Quinnipiac rounded out the podium finishers with a time of 20:53.6.
The next Stag to finish was Mia Strazzella ‘27 who finished in 24th place with a time of 22:25.3. The third Fairfield finisher was Devan Gambello ‘28 who finished 10 places behind Strazzella at 34th with a time of 22:45.8. First-year Carlina Castro, Catherine Gobo and Anna Heras ‘27 finished 59th, 84th and 100th respectively and Molly Ryle ‘26 finished 95th. The Stags average time was 22:50 and they finished 7th out of the 11 teams competing. Stony Brook took home first place beating Quinnipiac by 19 points.
The men’s team was led by junior Ryan Lindley who placed in 39th place out of the 146 man field in the men’s 8k event with a time of 26:14.1. Stony Brook’s Collin Gilstrap led the pack with a time of 24:41.9 followed by his teammate Henry Gartner and Siena’s Killian McNamee who were within one second of each other.
Following Lindley for the Stgas was George Hohenleitner ‘28 with a time of 26:44.7 which was good enough for 55th place. Sophomore Olli Muniz earned 61st place followed by Gabriel Montoya ‘28 placing 64th. Junior Jack Putnam placed 92nd and Bryce Robinson ‘28 rounded out the top 100 placing 99th.
Stony Brook completed the sweep with a win in the men’s event as well beating second place Siena by 39 points. The Stags placed in 9th place just 9 points behind 8th place Sacred Heart.
