Best? Firehouse Deli: 22 Reef Road, Fairfield • 255-5527
It’s rare that you can go into a deli, order something random without reading the menu and still have it be delicious, but Firehouse Deli is a place like that. Firehouse is only open for breakfast and lunch, but make up for the lack of dinner with the quality of their food. They have everything from breakfast sandwiches to wraps and hot sandwiches for very reasonable prices. Firehouse Deli has the food, the prices and the atmosphere needed to make it the best deli in Fairfield. In addition to just having take-out, like many delis do, Firehouse has a fairly large dining area if you don’t want to eat on the run. A lot of students swear by A’S Deli, which came in second, but Firehouse has it beat it taste and price. Also, you don’t have to worry about waiting in that line at A’S, which can take 20 minutes if you go at the wrong time. Located just off Post Road on Reef Road, it’s convenient if you’re shopping in town or on your way back to campus after picking up a friend at the police station.
Worst? The Stag:Fairfield University • 254-4000
Where do I begin with the Stag? Should I start with the outlandish prices for mediocre food or the fact that if you want to eat at any normal time it will be packed with people? The Stag is the lazy man’s deli. It is the place where you go if you either don’t have any money and are loaded with stag bucks or are too busy or lazy to drive somewhere else. The food is not bad at all and the service is usually good, but the selection and prices make it the worst option in Fairfield. It’s fine if you’re trying to grab something quick to eat in between class and don’t mind settling for the same thing you always get, but if you want an actual meal, you’re going to have to find a way off campus. Nobody can beat its convenient location on the third floor of the BCC, but this isn’t real estate so that isn’t enough to keep it out of the cellar. Unless you’re a freshman and can’t get off campus, there is absolutely no reason to eat at the Stag if you have more than a half of an hour to get food.
