It’s pathetic, desperate and, at times, incomprehensible, but I’ll tell you what- it’s worth it. Making a drunk dial or sending a drunk text to a qualified female isn’t the worst thing in the world. We’ve all done it, and most of us will continue to do it while trying to play it off as something other than a booty call, but that’s OK.

Seriously though, what’s the worst that could happen? As indefensible as it seems, sometimes it works. If it didn’t, would we continue to do it? Well of course we would, and with its proven track record, it becomes our goal to play late in the fourth quarter when we’re looking to score.

The drunk call is much safer than the drunk text and, for the sake of everybody’s dignity, I won’t even go into the Facebook message, poke or wall post. More often than not, your drunken ploy to get some is going to be unsuccessful, so playing it safe is the way to go.

With the phone call, there is less likelihood of either party remembering the slurred conversation in the morning. You don’t feel bad about striking out and she doesn’t remember you asking her to come over 25 times. It’s pretty much a win-win.

In the more-likely scenario, she won’t answer. She’ll know why you called, perhaps be flattered, and you won’t have utterly embarrassed yourself.

The drunk dial is a much more confident move as well. These guys can sway the mind of a drunk girl and get her to hang out, while the texters already have one hand in their pants anticipating another night of self-gratification.

If you’ve sent a series of drunken texts, then you know the feeling of embarrassment that comes with it the following morning. Your outbox reads like something a 12-year-old with a crush would write. It’s laughable. I’ve even been told that if you delete your lame texts that night then it’s as if they never happened.

Even though we may have lost some of our pride and dignity over the years, it is now that time when second-semester senior girls are the ones who get desperate.
