On Tuesday, April 10, comedian Steve Byrne dropped by Fairfield to put on a show for a surprisingly full lower level in the Barone Campus Center.

Since his material revolved around the topic of sex, Byrne interacted with audience members and asked about their sex lives. After the performance, he interviewed with The Mirror, but not until a student had prostrated himself in front of the comic.

The Mirror: So, Steve, how’d you end up in Fairfield?

Steve Byrne: I ended up at Fairfield because I was part of something called the NCCA (National Conference of Campus Activities). They invite a certain number of acts to perform for them, and I was fortunate enough to get selected and I guess your student representative saw it fit for me to come on down.

TM: What did you think of the show you just did?

SB: This was great, a really nice turnout. Everyone was listening and smiling when I was setting up a joke. I’ve been to some doozies, but this was good.

TM: How long have you been doing the comedy circuit?

SB: About 10 years now. I started Sept. 30, 1997. I know the exact day, and I did it in Stand Up New York, a comedy club on the Upper West Side. It’s a real shithole, so it’s right for comedy.

TM: You’re going to be doing a show on NBC called “The Real Wedding Crashers.” What’s that about?

SB: It’s basically “Punk’d” at weddings. It’s an hour-long show, but with this one, we carry it on from Wednesday to the day of the wedding. So at the wedding we reveal, “Hey, we’ve been messing with you all week.” It was one of the most nerve-wracking but also one of the most fun times of my life.

TM: Steve, I know that you talked about magic in your act, which makes this question important. Who is your favorite magician?

SB: Doug Henning. Look him up on Google. He’s a hideous human being.
