Bonnaroo

If you’re heading home for the summer, and home is nowhere near New York state, and yet you are looking for a festival to get your music fix, the original Bonnaroo might do the trick. On June 13-15 in Manchester, TN the Bonnaroo festival will feature such artists as Neil Young ‘ Crazy Horse, The Flaming Lips, Ben Kweller, DJ Spooky and Emmylou Harris (clearly DJ Spooky and Emmylou are the music’s yin and yang). Although Bonnaroo may be more country-oriented than BonnarooNE, this looks like enough mix of fine music to keep every festival-goer happy. Tickets are available at bonnaroo.com.

BonnarooNE

What do Rusted Root, Bob Dylan and Tom Petty all have in common? No-they don’t all need showers (well, okay, maybe they do)-they’re all playing BonarooNE, the folk/rock festival taking place August 8-10 in Enterprise Park at Calverton in Riverhead, NY. The list of artists not only features these three fine acts, but also Gov’t Mule, Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds, and moe. among others. These six acts alone are so fabulous, it doesn’t make my eyes bug out half as much knowing the tickets are a mere $164.50 each. Tickets are available through www.bonnaroo.com as of May 7th, but act fast: when the $164.50 tickets are sold out, the price is moving to $189.50.

Foo Fighters

I recently spoke to someone who saw the Foo Fighters on their current tour. Or rather, I recently attempted to speak to someone who saw the Foo Fighters. His eyes were stuck wide open, and the only words he could manage in his rock-stupor were “damn, they’re good.” Unfortunately they are heading out of the immediate tri-state area for the next couple of weeks, but if home isn’t here, then you’re in good shape! Admittedly, even if the whole concert just consisted of Dave Grohl coming out and putting their album One by One in a CD player for us and then leaving the stage, I’d still probably go-the album is just that good. However, from what I understand, the Foo Fighters are putting on a tour to be reckoned with. Tickets available at ticketmaster.com.

New Found Glory and Good Charlotte

I had the pleasure of going to PNC Bank Arts Center last Saturday night for one of the most thrilling concerts I have seen in a long time. I purchased these tickets as a birthday present for my little brother, honestly expecting to enjoy watching him have a good time more than I would actually enjoy the music. But woe to me for making that assumption-or rather, Whoa! is what I was thinking when I saw Good Charlotte and New Found Glory take the stage. The Civic Tour Presents New Found Glory and Good Charlotte is one of the hottest tickets right now and rightfully so. Expect one of the most exhilarating experiences of your life in the flashing lights and thundering music. Tickets are available on ticketmaster.com.

The Field Day Festival

Before BonnarooNE makes Riverhead rock, another smaller festival will grace the grass at Enterprise Park: the Field Day Festival sponsored by MTV2 and K-ROCK. The festival is June 7th and 8th with an eclectic bunch of acts sure to please. Headlining acts include Radiohead and the Beastie Boys (I’m guessing Radiohead made those arrangements themselves, right?), as well as Beck, Sigur Ros, The Music, The Raveonettes, My Morning Jacket and Dashboard Confessional-and that’s hardly all the big names coming. Tickets are modestly priced at $85 single day or $160 two day, about the same as Bonnaroo but considerably worth it considering the fantastic talent involved. More info at www.fielddayfestival.com or ticketmaster.com.
