Staff writer Melissa Nowicki recently conducted an interview with Mike Falzone 06′ of the band JonnieProud.

MN: When did your band JonnieProud form?

MF: I’ve been playing guitar for about five years. When I was in high school my friends Aaron Dzujna [back up vocals] and Matt Riscol [bassist] and I decided to play some open mic nights in Stratford, CT and we began to be known as JonnieProud. [Chris] Pastore 06′ joined the band when I came to Fairfield.

MN: What is your favorite song on your album?

MF: “Good to You” or we also call it “To Make You Happy.” It’s about finding someone who is perfect for you and then finding out she neglected to tell you that’s she’s with someone else.

MN: Your live DVD, “Falzy Live from Downstairs” is hysterical.

MF: (laughs) It was recorded in the basement of Jogues. We had a bunch of video clips of us doing stupid shit in the building which we put to the song “Destiny.”

MN: Where have you played on campus?

MF We’ve played at the Levee and at the Great Campus Drink Out.

MN: Who are your musical influences?

MF: Dispatch, The Beatles, Ben Harper and Teig Lynster.

MN: Dave Matthews or Led Zeppelin?

MF: Dave Matthews. Wait! What the hell did I just say? Can I say Clay Aiken?

MN: (laughs) 50 cent or Eminem?

MF: (laughs) Skee- Lo.

MN: What do you look for in a girl?

MF: Someone Pastore likes.

MN: Do you have any on campus JonnieProud shows coming up?

MF: We’re doing a record release show November 22nd in Gonzaga. We’re playing all the stuff we recorded over the past two years. We’re more mature now musically. We’ve really developed a fuller sound and became serious about our music. We’ve incorporated Funk, Soul, Reggae, Hip Hop, Rock, Jazz and Blues.

MN: (laughs) Isn’t that every genre of music?

MF: (laughs) Pretty much everything but country.

MN: Where do you hope to take your band after graduation?

MF: I hope to have a tight underground following by then and touring around the country but mostly based in NYC.
