It’s that wonderful time of year again! Everyone is attempting to balance schoolwork along with all the festive holiday parties. Whether it’s a party at the beach or office where you intern, finding the proper outfit can become as much of a challenge as how you’re going to study for your world history and chemistry final on the same day. Here are some tips to help you navigate the party scenes looking great.

Do: • Know the dress code; you don’t want to be under-dressed or over-dressed. • Try fun tights/leggings with short dresses. Experiment with patterns and colors. • Wear dark jeans; they can be casual or dressy with the right top and accessories. • Rely on a little black dress; it never fails. • Stay away from black if it’s a festive party; be playful with color. • Add jewelry and a nice handbag to dress up a plain outfit. • Slip into heels; they may hurt but they always make an outfit look better.

Don’t: • Go overboard on red and green unless that’s the dress code of the party. • Expose too much skin. Less is more, especially in an office setting. • Take away from the decorations; while it’s fun to shine, limit the amount of glitter and sequins. • Try to squeeze into something that’s not your size; holding your stomach in through an entire party is a difficult task. • Be afraid to wear white; it can be worn all year round as long as it’s the right shade.

For Guys: • A button down shirt with a tie tucked underneath a crewneck sweater can be worn casually with jeans or with slacks for a dressier look. • When in doubt, a blazer always looks great. • Lose the dirty old sneakers and baseball hat.
