Men’s soccer crushes Manhattan, still unbeaten in MAAC

After shutting out Adelphi University 5-0 last Tuesday, the Stags mirrored the effort with a 5-0 drubbing of winless Manhattan last Sunday at Lessing Field.

New-look men’s b-ball have questions to answer

By Ben Doody Dressed in new practice jerseys that were - of all colors - black, thus discrediting the event's title, the men's basketball team made its first public appearance Saturday when it took the court for its annual Red-White scrimmage. Absent from the mix were the team's two graduated stars (Deng Gai '05 and Tyquawn Goode '05) and its one suspended star, senior forward DeWitt Maxwell.

Fresh faces lead women’s hoops

Shireyll Moore '09 scored a game-high 11 points for the white team, which defeated the red team 34-27 at Alumni Hall.

Women’s soccer cruises in first two league games

By Joe Serzan For the Fairfield women's soccer team, it was double the domination last weekend in New Jersey and New York. Fairfield's 6 - 0 victory over St. Peter's Friday night in Jersey City was their first MAAC win of the season. Sunday, the Stags came out strong once again and shot past Manhattan in overtime for a 1-0 win.

Men’s baseball slips at Rider

by Joe Serzan What began as a promising weekend road-trip for the Fairfield baseball team ended with disappointment following consecutive losses to Rider. Fairfield defeated Rider, 7-6, on Sunday afternoon at Sonny Pittaro Field. But the Broncs stormed back and won the second game of Sunday's doubleheader and Monday afternoon's rubber match.

Baseball up-ends Niagara

by Joe Serzan Just when it looked like the blustery weather and Niagara's hard-throwing pitchers would both continue to keep the Fairfield baseball team cold Sunday afternoon, its hitters suddenly caught fire. Tom Arpino's '06 game-winning base hit in the bottom of the seventh inning completed the Stags 6-5 comeback victory over Niagara at Alumni Diamond in the second game of Sunday's doubleheader.

Editorial: JvA’s honeymoon is over

When the announcement was made that Fr. Jeffrey von Arx, S.J. would become our new president, the Fairfield community rejoiced at the prospect of having a president who was more visible, embraced diversity and supported the student body. However, Fr. von Arx's decision to cancel Alliance's same-sex marriage forum last week has made some students and faculty question his ability to do so.
