Sunscreen can save your life

A few months ago, I was ripped out of my college bubble. Surprisingly, the person to do so was my doctor, and it happened at my last dermatologist appointment. I even cried. My tears were not for the poison ivy that I was infected with, but because the doctor took one look at my skin and explained how my life was seriously at risk because of skin cancer.

EDITORIAL: Fighting for us

At last Fairfield University has a student president that is willing to fight for student rights. Karen Donoghue, already noteworthy as our first female president, has once again shown her true zeal, determination and drive by calling police activity on the beach last Saturday "ridiculous," and calling on members of her administration to consult town officials and discuss the problem.

It's 4:30 a.m. and the phone rings. I figure it's someone calling for the person who used to live in my room. I mean, I NEVER give my house number out. If you want to reach me, call my cell. It rings again, so I get worried and I pick it up, but by then they've hung up.

Movin’ on up

Everyday begins with a shower, a toothbrush, a bar of soap, a shave, and inevitably the lighting of an LED torch, the "on" light for the internet connections that will burn throughout the day and night. Few students, however, take the time to even think about what allows them to download those coveted mp3s, movie trailers, and screensavers of their personal computers.

It happens time and again, the freshman girl/senior guy "phenomenon..." One may ask why? I respond: because freshman girls are stupid and fun. You can't really blame them though. I mean, senior guys are the alpha males of campus. We stand out, we've lived college for longer then any of the others.

I have to say that where I am right now, the idea of freshman girls taking "our" guys isn't thrilling. However, I know that it's inevitable and an age-old occurrence. Only three years ago, we were freshman girls. I will never forget the way these senior girls looked at us when we were talking to "their" guys one night.

New fines, point system raise stakes for breaking rules

For those of you who have made yourselves popular with the officials in the judicial department, the fun's over. As of this year, a change has been made in the university's point policy, the sanctioning system for alcohol-related violations. "Students now can only work off four points during their entire four years here at Fairfield," said Jeanne DiMuzio, director of wellness and prevention.
