WVOF loses student voice

Voices of Fairfield spoke out over the summer months in response to the University's decision to allow WNPR, a radio station in Hartford, Conn., to air programs on WVOF, turning the station into a National Public Radio affiliate.

The merger which took effect on Aug. 1 has caused a frenzy among student radio enthusiasts and lovers of WVOF a.k.a. the 'Voice of Fairfield' because the decision has resulted in the dropping of student and community programming, which as seen as another blow to the ever-disappearing presence of college radio.

Dance Ensemble finds a new rhythm

Some Fairfield women explained this weekend that they want "big spenders" and the lovey dovey "kiss, kiss" and that if their demands aren't met, "it's too late to apologize." These ladies are none other than the members of the Fairfield Dance Ensemble, who, in their show "Rhythm Nation," performed in front of an excited, rowdy audience Friday night at the Quick Center.

On Saturday, April 8th, the Fairfield University men’s lacrosse team suffered it’s fourth straight loss, and fell to 2-6 on the year, with a12-7 beating dished out by the Villanova Wildcats at Villanova Stadium.

Survey represents ‘Fairfield’s greenest’

More than two-thirds of undergraduate students have never participated in environmental awareness activities on campus, according to the first environmental survey conducted at Fairfield. The survey, which invited all undergraduate students to answer questions about their environmental behaviors and ideologies, found that the majority of students who responded fail to bring about change by recycling or buying environmentally friendly goods.

Fans may ‘Panic’ over band’s new sound

For fans who are confused about the band's new direction, Panic at the Disco opens its new CD, "Pretty. Odd.," with a minute-and-a-half long song addressing the concern that their sound may surprise audiences. The track, entitled "We're So Starving" proclaims, in an almost Broadway-bound style, that their fans "don't have to worry, because we're still the same band …" In reality, however, Panic at the Disco shows a different style.

Pirating music linked to drug and gun use

In an attempt to convince U.S. prosecutors to crack down on music piracy, the National District Attorneys Organization has said that downloading music will lead to "everything from handguns to large quantities of cocaine [and] marijuana," as well as terrorism, according to published reports.

Record Store Day:

Independently owned record stores across the nation will celebrate the first annual Record Store Day on April 19 by holding special events, including in-store performances, parties, appealing sales, and customer goodie bags. According to Recordstoreday.com, music legends, such as Paul McCartney, are supporting the new holiday with fervor, saying record stores have always supported them and should be kept alive with appreciation.

Wal-Mart continues to ‘roll back’

Continuing to follow its motto to "roll back on prices," Wal-Mart has announced that the company is dropping prices on its CD inventories. All top tier CDs will now cost $12, with the top 20 best sellers costing $10. Top catalog titles will now run you $12, with midline catalog titles costing $7, and budget releases at $5.
