FUSA announces Dashboard Confessional as spring concert

Hands down, FUSA members said they were proud to announce Tuesday night that Dashboard Confessional will be the university's spring concert, scheduled for April 6. "We are extremely excited," said Jon Velotta '07, co-director of FUSA's concert programming board.

That’s Phantastic: Should seniority warrant indifference?

I am really not one to get involved with this whole FUSA voting process. Maybe I should be, but that's just not me. Honestly though, does it really make a difference who we vote for? Has our school really changed all that much from one president to the next? In my past four years here, I have not seen anything change all that much.

Editorial: Where there’s a Williams . . .

Sophomore Hutchinson Williams won the FUSA presidential election in a landslide victory on Tuesday night. His is a victory on several levels; not only is he only the second rising junior in recent memory to earn the presidential post, but this year's election had the second-highest voter turnout since 1998.

Women’s swimmers lead Stags at MAAC’s

Even though neither the men's nor the women's team won the MAAC swimming and diving championship this weekend, they still had something to be proud of. When all was said and done, the women's team had broken seven school records and one MAAC record at the events, held at Loyola College in Maryland last weekend.

by Ben Doody Last fall, as the fiftieth state's favorite daughter, Michelle Wei, prepared to take on the world's best female and male golfers, a young woman three years older than Wei entered her final season of high school competition - one more fall of digs, sets, and spikes before joining Wei in the continental United States and wrecking havoc on NCAA volleyball competition.

Playing small ball

by Ben Doody On the face of every Fairfield men's basketball player, as the team sat in Eastern Iowa Airport waiting to fly back to the east coast after the Hawkeye Challenge, was a well-earned look of satisfaction. What the Stags did over the weekend, which was put a scare into 14th ranked Iowa and convincingly beat Tulane to pick up the season's first win, allowed them to head into Friday's MAAC opener against Loyola with a far more up-beat attitude than one might expect from a 1-4 team.

Women’s bball back at .500 after beating Yale

Stephanie Ryan '08 scored a career-high 18 points to lead the women's basketball team to a 70-61 victory over Yale at the John J. Lee Amphitheater in New Haven, Conn. The win improved the Stags to 2-2 and puts them on a current two game winning streak. Ryan came off the bench to lead the Stags over the winless Bulldogs.

The Newz from Apuz: These guys just might be the real deal

In case no one has noticed - and if the turnout at last week's game against Providence is any indication - the Stags men's basketball team can officially be labeled as a contender, and not a pretender. After the Stags hung with No. 14 Iowa for 37 minutes, and then handily beat Tulane, it became apparent that this team might surprise a lot of people in the conference season, which begins Friday when the Stags host Loyola.
