That's why they say, you can't win them all. However, for Fairfield volleyball, they almost did. The Stags lost to # 2 Siena in the 2006 MAAC Championship on Saturday afternoon (30-24, 30-25, 21-30, 15-30, 15-12), ending their hopes of a berth in the NCAA Tournament.

Boolah-boolah. Rah-rah-rah. Pep band. For as long as anyone can remember, these terms have been synonymous with college life in America. One of the most underrated but common features of collegiate sports is the pep band.

One of the great challenges in a small D-I school is keeping successful coaches, especially when big programs come calling. Manhattan College and Iona College, two schools similar in size to Fairfield, are two places where despite athletic success, many coaches have moved on to larger venues.

In the 2004 and 2005 seasons the women's volleyball team advanced to the MAAC championship match only to suffer two heartbreaking losses. At a recent meeting of the College of Arts and Sciences faculty, Dr. Timothy Snyder, dean of arts and sciences, announced some alarming statistics from a survey given to graduating seniors by the Higher Educational Research Institute. The survey gives administrators a sense of the lives and thoughts of the graduating seniors and compares them to a group of over 100 hundred other schools, many of which are Catholic.

A Fairfield University senior was solicited to enter a man's vehicle on Barlow Road last Tuesday at around 10 p.m. The suspect, whom has yet to be identified, drove up to the student and asked if she needed a ride. Upon the student's repeated refusals, the suspect persisted until another car approached behind him, and he drove away.

3 unions, which make up over 5,000 carpenters in the state of Connecticut, have gone on strike over a contract negotiation gone sour. According to the Connecticut Post, the strike involves over 3,000 members of locals 24, 43, and 210. The number of projects affected is unknown but it is considered to be substantial.
