Fairfield University Student Association Senators Mike Meehan '08 and Jamie Abromaitis '09 led a meeting Thursday night in front of a dozen concerned students to address the Student Life Committee's decision to take action on the Off-Campus Boarder lottery issue.

The Senate decided Sunday night that they would not protest on Accepted Students Day, which will take place on April 12. The Senate Student Life Committee initially told The Mirror on April 1 that they would pass out flyers to incoming students on the Off-Campus Border lottery issue.

Dear Students, Over the past few days, we have all seen the back and forth articles, quotes, and discussions considering the prospect of a student protest regarding the off campus boarder lottery. Students have expressed frustration, confusion, and discontent, and this appears to have prompted a desire to demonstrate. I am concerned about the level of anxiety and perhaps worst of all, a lack of trust. If students are willing to work with me and others, I would like to propose a way to repair this breach in lieu of a demonstration.

Do you count carbs when you go out to eat? The Atkins diet and the South Beach diet are the popular diets that seem to have struck the Fairfield area hard. Some students are hooked on such high protein/fat and low carbohydrate diets because of the fast, significant weight loss.

The Fairfield Athletic Department held its annual awards banquet on Sunday to celebrate a successful athletic year and to honor the achievements of individual athletes. Every student athlete was invited to the dinner to receive an award for their participation and efforts.

The women's crew team was successful at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) rowing championships this weekend, placing third behind Marist and Loyola in New Rochelle, N.Y. Marist was able to win the tournament by a wide margin. Fairfield was led by the novice 4 shell which won its race by a lofty 12 seconds.

Redemption was in the air this week for the softball team, as the Stags earned four MAAC victories this week against Niagara and Canisius. Last year Canisius came out of the loser's bracket to beat No. 1 seeded Fairfield twice in the finals of the MAAC Tournament.

After losing to fourth-seeded Marist 4-3 last week, the women's tennis team is out for revenge this weekend when the fifth-seeded Stags play the Red Foxes in the opening round of the MAAC Tournament. The Tournament will be played at the U.S. Tennis Center in Queens, New York.

Disappointment is one word that comes to men's lacrosse head coach Ted Spencer after the team suffered its worst loss in his eight years at Fairfield - a loss that officially eliminated the Stags from earning an NCAA Tournament bid. The Stags were ripped 14-4 by Great Western Lacrosse League (GWLL) foe Notre Dame last Saturday.
