We were shaken to hear of the tragic death of our classmate Alejandro "Alex" Carrion '08, who passed away in his sleep last Thursday. The heartbreaking news of Alex's untimely death has shaken the entire Fairfield community to the core. As college students, we are rarely aware of our own mortality.

Shame on FUSA senators for allowing two of their own to be the first to reap the benefits of the all-access on-campus parking passes. At last Sunday night's FUSA Senate meeting, senators held the first raffle drawing for the all-access passes, the proceeds of which benefit Special Olympics.

With the start of a new semester, The Mirror Editorial Board took this opportunity to dream up their ideal vision of the university. Here are some of the recurring themes: A graduation speaker with gravitas With graduation fast approaching, it is our hope that Fairfield's list of impressive commencement speakers will continue to grow.

Eighteen hundred men were taught by a small faculty in fewer than half of the buildings standing today. This is the Fairfield at which Bill Schimpf started work in 1969. Indeed, the Fairfield we all know and love today bears little resemblance to the university on Mr.

Fairfield was extremely fortunate to have Paul Rusesabagina, the "Rwandan Schindler" whose story was told in "Hotel Rwanda," on campus last week. Rusesabagina's story was a powerful one that urged students to act, even if only by sharing what they heard with others.

Travel to any corner of the planet, find an individual who has registered for an academic class at some point in his or her life, and then ask what they thought about the process. At Fairfield and every other academic institution, registration is a drag. But it does not have to be.

With the launching of the new Center for Faith and Public Life, we are encouraged to see the University visibly continuing to expand its academic breadth, and we are pleased that our Catholic campus is making strides to explore religious diversity and its influence on public affairs.

After the recent success of the women's soccer team in earning the championship title in the Metro-Atlantic Athletic Conference, The Mirror extends congratulations to athletes in their continued dedication to representing Fairfield as a force on the playing fields.

While it's difficult to recall a time when the Fairfield University campus was not peppered with small construction projects, the idea of a new dorm in the quad is a welcome one. The massive revamping of the Barone Campus Center and DiMenna Nyselius Library were necessary and appreciated additions to campus.

Too often, FUSA is criticized by the student body and the university community at large for the quality of concert acts they bring, or fail to bring, to campus. Last year, rumors circulated that FUSA might book Fairfield-favorite O.A.R. as either the fall or spring act.
