Editorial: Playing it safe

In light of recent violence and robberies surrounding Fairfield's campus, all students must be reminded that we in fact do not live in our own isolated Fairfield bubble. We are a part of the real world, and we see its upsides and downsides as much as any other community.

Editorial: Our apathetic legacy

Across the nation, college students are reminded that we are the least likely to vote in political elections. Political apathy is our legacy, as less than half of the 18-24 year-old age bracket votes. Coupled with the nationwide epidemic of political apathy is Fairfield's renowned student apathy.

Editorial: Cheers + Boos

Cheers to legal beirut tables! Legal or not, beirut tables were always going to be a fixture at Fairfield University. Now that they're legal, it makes carrying a huge piece of plywood into your house a lot easier...actually it doesn't make it an easier task, just less suspicious.

EDITORIAL: Kudos for Cokie

There are few people in the world more qualified to give a group of young men and women an educated outlook on the state of world affairs than Cokie Roberts, and the Class of 2004 is very fortunate to have her as commencement speaker this May. Perhaps this ongoing struggle between our school's faculty and administration began four years ago, when the administration began the process of imposing "merit pay" upon a resistant faculty.

EDITORIAL: Cheers and boos

Cheers to Doug Perlitz '92 for staying in Haiti to continue his mission helping poor children in the face of increasing violence and political unrest. Living in one of the wealthiest and most peaceful parts of the world, it is sometimes easy for us to lose sight of social injustice around the globe.

EDITORIAL: War on plagiarism

As a newspaper, The Mirror treats issues of plagiarism and dishonesty with the utmost importance. It is time for students, faculty and administration at Fairfield to do the same. A report which will be presented to faculty tomorrow criticizes this university for the relatively poor way the school handles matters of plagiarism and academic dishonesty when compared to schools like Villanova, Fordham and Princeton.

Paul Duffy '05 won the FUSA presidential election over incumbent Kevin Neubauer '05 in a landslide on Tuesday night. Duffy should take advantage of his large base of student support as soon as possible. On election night, the lower level of the BCC was filled mostly with Duffy supporters awaiting the results.
