Letter to the editor: A more open dialogue on race

To The Editor: I don't know who should be more embarrassed by the story that ran last Thursday on the addition of four new professors to the Fairfield community: the administration or The Mirror itself. ("New Hires will double number of black faculty"). Why the chagrin? Well, after a lead that curiously manages to disparage not only Leave it to Beaver, but the current faculty of the university as a "rerun," readers of The Mirror are treated to nearly 500 words that amount to the following: The College of Arts and Sciences has hired four new professors simply because they are black.

Letter to the editor: Swastikas left up in Dolan Hall

To the Editor: We are writing to voice our concern about the presence of swastikas around Dolan Hall. Although the history of the swastika as a symbol reaches back over 3,000 years, it serves today as a powerful reminder of Hitler's Nazi Party and its murder of over 6 million human beings during World War II.

Letter to the Editor: Plugging Fairfield to the troops

To the Editor: I believe it is important, especially as college students, for us to recognize the men and women who so bravely serve in the armed forces of the United States. They give their lives so that we can live in freedom every day. I am upset though, at the way I feel the university has used these men and women's dedication as an opportunity for advertising and promotion.

Letter to the Editor: “The Fun Assassins”

To the Editor: This year Fairfield decided to spend thousands of dollars to change the name of Fairfield Security to Public Safety. With the recent slew of thefts from the townhouses, what is being kept safe? I find it difficult to understand how a public safety officer can bust a freshman for carrying a couple of beers in his backpack across the quad, yet remain oblivious to a man breaking in through the back porch of a townhouse and then walking out with a couple laptops.

Letter to the editor: Career Fair useful for all majors

To the Editor: I'm writing in response to your article about how the Career Fair is geared to business students. I have to say that I disagree with that statement. I myself was a liberal arts major, now currently working for a company that was at the Career Fair my senior year.
