Dr. Dina Franceschi, Economics professor and Chair of the Environmental Steering Committee, has some advice:

(1) Join Up: Get engaged. The Student Environmental Association and the Green Campus Initiative are active and proactive, and they welcome more members;

(2) Reach Out: If you can propose a new campus environmental initiative (maybe an idea from one of your classes), tell a faculty member who can connect you with environmental faculty and administrators; and

(3) Power Off: Actively look for ways to conserve energy (turn off lights, appliances) and water (shut off faucets at intervals when you cook, shower, or brush your teeth).

You can read the entire interview with Dr. Franceschi on “The Reluctant Environmentalist.”
