I have to say that where I am right now, the idea of freshman girls taking “our” guys isn’t thrilling. However, I know that it’s inevitable and an age-old occurrence. Only three years ago, we were freshman girls. I will never forget the way these senior girls looked at us when we were talking to “their” guys one night.

They said something along the lines of us being attractive only because we were naïve freshmen who are easily wooed by older guys (only in a much less polite choice of words). Obviously, my friends and I thought these girls were snotty, out of line, and just looking for a way to pick on us.

It’s weird to think that I now find my state of mind to be closer to those girls’ than my own was three years ago. I never thought I’d think like this, but like my female peers, I am admittedly jealous at the sight of our guy friends talking to these younger girls whom they just met.

College is a strange place. It seems that girls have much more opportunities as freshmen, and with each year, the number of potential guys seems to diminish more and more. By the time we are seniors, we only basically have fellow seniors in our dating pool.

However, for the guys, it is the complete opposite. No offense, but it’s a fact that freshman guys are normally not extremely successful with the girls. I remember my older brother once telling me that the absolute “bottom of the ladder” as a college freshman.

Generally, freshman girls are too busy hanging out with upperclassmen and see guys their own age as just buddies. However, once a guy overcomes the freshman status, he finds himself having more possibilities with every passing year. This continues throughout senior year, as guys can choose between girls in every grade level.

Perhaps they want to get back at us senior girls for not giving them a chance freshman year. Well, if this is so, it definitely works and you have your retribution. I apologize on behalf the entire population of senior females. But please don’t get me wrong – we aren’t dying for you guys. I just need to say that even though you have three other classes of girls to choose from, try not to completely discount us. Remember, you’ll always be “our” guys!
