On Monday, Oct. 19, a panel on the issues of domestic and sexual assaults and violence called “Where Do We Stand?” was hosted by the Distinguished Gentlemen organization at Fairfield University.

The guest speakers that formed the panel featured Thomas Pellegrino ‘80, vice president for Student Affairs, Sydney Johnson, head coach of the Fairfield Men’s Basketball team and Zavon Billups, sophomore class president, as well as many other speakers.

These guest speakers spoke to a crowd of students and faculty on how to end this widespread issue of domestic and sexual violence through our interactions with others on campus and in society as a whole.

The speakers on the panel also asked for contributions from the audience in order to start a dialogue on these issues and how the Fairfield community can prevent sexual and domestic violence from happening on campus, as well as how we as individuals can help those men and women who are victims.

According to Katie Goodfellow ‘18 who attended the panel, the discussion helped the panel and audience come to the conclusion that the issue of sexual assault, which is most commonly associated with females, is also an issue amongst males as well.

After attending the panel, Goodfellow said that she was “thankful [she] was able to contribute and start this dialogue with others, and know that this is an issue that many students care about on this campus.”

“I am so proud to have chosen a school that really empowers students to be able to talk freely about the issues they care about as well as embodies the values they teach to us,” Goodfellow continued.
