“Lots to do, hundreds of people, and some wonderful speakers,” was the image Megan Steel ’08 used to describe Fairfield University’s 2nd Annual Relay for Life.
Colleges Against Cancer held the 12-hour event, which started 5 p.m. on Friday, in the Rec Plex. In the event student, administrators and faculty member walk around a track of lit bags to raise money for the American Cancer Society.
Steel was the event chair as well as president of Fairfield’s chapter of Colleges Against Cancer.
Steel bases the success of the event on two main factors: the events raised as much money as was raised as last year, and second, “we brought the Fairfield University community together to support the cause,” said Steel.
Small changes were made to advance the success of the event from last year to this year, and there is still room for growth in the future. “The challenge for next year’s committee will be to keep those participants there all night and into the morning,” said Steel.
