Anthrax scare in academic building
A faculty member found a suspicious looking white powder in the mail in the Bellarmine Hall academic building on Oct. 23. Bellarmine Hall is used for languages and arts and sciences classes.
The hall was evacuated and Philadelphia emergency services were called in to deal with the situation. The hazardous materials unit investigated the situation and determined that nothing harmful was present.
The building reopened later in the day after everything was found to be alright, but public safety remained in the area for the rest of the day.
The professor’s name was not revealed.

Smoking policy not enforced
A controversy has arisen following the creation of a smoking policy by the Student Government Association at Loyola New Orleans. Because the policy was not created by the board of directors or administration, it is doubtful that the University Police will enforce it.
The policy consists of banning smoking on campus, except in designated smoking regions across campus.
No sanctions or violations have been determined as of yet. Residence life, the University police and the Student Government Association will meet soon to discuss the issue.
