Even if you don’t like reality TV or sextuplets, you must have heard about the notorious break-up of Jon and Kate Gosselin on TLC’s increasingly popular show “Jon & Kate Plus 8.”  But you might have not heard that the show may now be called “Jon and Kate Plus a Fairfield Graduate.”

That’s right. Fairfield University is somehow related to this strange show on TLC. How? Well, apparently Jon has been quite a party boy (it’s debatable if this behavior was occurring before or after the announcement of the breakup) and dated 2008 Fairfield graduate Kate Major.

So it’s easy to argue that Kate majored (pun intended) not only in reporting, but also in breaking up celebrity marriages.

Major is a reporter for the Star Magazine, which other publications have taken as the reason for her amazing performance in tabloids. She was supposed to only interview Jon, but it soon became something more.

“I didn’t mean it to happen, it just did,” she told Us Magazine. “I went to do a story on Jon and ended up falling for him.”

But Major decided July 23 to resign from Star because of the conflict of interest her relationship with Jon created.

The two have been hanging out with major celebs too. Lindsay Lohan’s father met with them at a restaurant in the Hamptons — and with his reputation, I could only imagine that dinner table discussion. I’m sure that waiter had an unforgettable night. Jon and Kate (the second … or who knows?) really knew how to socialize. They have also been seen with Jill Zarin from Bravo’s ”Real Housewives of New York City,” so you know they have good taste — not.

Apparently being in the tabloids was more important to her than working for one. Too bad soon after this Jon began dating Hailey Glassman, the 22-year-old daughter of Kate Gosselin’s plastic surgeon, leaving Kate Major jobless.

It gets better. In an exclusive interview that aired on E! News, Kate Major called Jon a “liar” for denying they had a romantic relationship. She said, “We had plans to travel together, to live together, and to be together. He made his decision in the Hamptons. He wanted to be with me.”  Apparently not, since now Major believes he was actually two-timing her and Glassman.

She told Us, “He’s the one who actually told me to quit my job … He told me he was going to Massachusetts to break up with [Glassman]. I know the truth. He knows the truth. Unfortunately, she did not.”

But Jon says it’s different with Glassman, and told Us that his “heart is always with Hailey.”

Kate continues her rant to E!:
“It’s been a nightmare. I did not want to have to do this.”
You know you like it.
“I did not want to have to sell him out, but when he makes me look like a liar, a fool, and an idiot. I have to speak out.”
We’re glad you feel that way. Just more basis for my argument.
“He wasn’t honest with Hailey. He needs to man up and tell the truth. I’m not going to be the other woman.”
I almost feel bad for you.

Glassman made her rebuttle, telling US Magazine that Jon Gosselin is her “first love” and she said she wasn’t worried when Jon and Major went to the Hampton’s together again after they broke up in early August. This story gets even crazier and crazier. Like you, I have already forgotten how Michael Lohan got involved.

At this point, I think we should all appeal for Kate Major to speak at the Open VISIONS forum, especially since she doesn’t have a job now.

So Kate Major, all this, and only two years out of Fairfield. You’ve obviously moved on to much better things, really displaying those Jesuit values well.  I only hope I can at some point interview Jon Gosselin and turn him down in his attempt to get another Fairfield notch on his belt. In fact, maybe we should just ask him to come to Open VISIONS.  He’s showed an interest in Fairfield and obviously has much more experience than you, Kate. Sorry … you lose again.

End of story, celebrities are insane, but it’s super amusing to found out that someone who walked through the Barone Campus Center a billion times like the rest of us was involved in this insane story. Kate Major may be majorly out of her mind for quitting her job for a dating frog, jumping from pad to pad, but at least this grad can be proud that her Facebook-esque picture had 15 minutes, or more like one minute of fame. Fairfield, represent.
