To my Fellow Fairfield University Students,

On behalf of the entire Fairfield University Student Association, welcome back! I hope you had a relaxing summer and enjoyed your time off. Whether you spent it at home, taking classes, traveling, at the beach, in an internship or working so you can afford to buy books, I am assuming most of you are like me, and after the third week could not wait to get back.

This is going to be an exciting year for everyone on campus, regardless if you’re an incoming member of the class of 2015; just getting ready to begin your Fairfield experience, or belong to the class of 2012; ready to live out your last year with some much deserved and overdue time spent at the beach.

F.U.S.A. has been working hard through the end of this past semester and throughout the summer to revamp itself as an organization in order to best serve you as students.

This past year we successfully passed a new Constitution, allowing for a refreshed and restructured F.U.S.A.; one that promotes itself and carries itself as a more transparent, open and clearly defined organization, not only by the students, but for the students. We are now divided into three main branches, each of which is responsible for fulfilling a particular student need.

The Senate focuses on the student advocacy portion of F.U.S.A.’s mission and provides a forum for the concerns and needs of the undergraduate student body.

Class Senators will also be responsible for holding open forums. Members of their class can ask questions, present concerns, hear various University representatives speak and enjoy free food.

The Council of Student Organizations (C.O.S.O.) serves as a resource, as well as the administrative body for the representation of student clubs and organizations. C.O.S.O. approves constitutions for new clubs, allocates funds, and works to develop and manage all clubs and organizations.

The Programming Board plans, markets and implements various programs throughout the year. Much of this planning has been taking place over the summer. You can look forward to Late night at Barone, the Presidential Ball and countless other programs throughout the year. F.U.S.A. will also be continuing the Broadway Trip Series, with several new shows and has begun to work with our agent on this year’s concert.

This is a new year for everyone, and with that comes the opportunity for change.

With this opportunity we have the potential to continue where we left off last year with the strongest showing of school spirit that I have seen in my time here. We have the ability to truly show what it means as Fairfield University Students to be proud; whether this is personal pride, pride in your work, or Stag pride, this is our time.

Sincerely,

Charlie Knights ‘12

F.U.S.A. President
