3 unions, which make up over 5,000 carpenters in the state of Connecticut, have gone on strike over a contract negotiation gone sour.

According to the Connecticut Post, the strike involves over 3,000 members of locals 24, 43, and 210. The number of projects affected is unknown but it is considered to be substantial.

Fairfield University is not immune to the strikes. Strikers have been seen throughout the week in front of the North Benson Road entrance. What delays this might have to work at Fairfield is currently unknown as of press time.

The carpenters want an $7.50 an hour raise over three years, but the offer put on the table by contractors was only $5.50 an hour. Union workers rejected this offer and decided to strike.

More information will be forthcoming as the situation progresses.

Some information was provided by the Connecticut Post from a May 2, 2002 story.
