A Fairfield University student was arrested Tuesday afternoon on one count of fourth-degree sexual assault charges.

According to the Connecticut Post, Michael T. Ilardi ‘11 was charged with sexually assaulting a female student who was sleeping in her townhouse. The article states that the woman claimed she woke up on Feb. 13 to Ilardi rubbing her genital area.

Allegedly, Ilardi confessed to police during questioning over the case, saying the female student is a friend of his and he used to wake up his girlfriend in the same fashion.

Martha Milcarek, the University’s assistant vice president for public relations, told the Connecticut Post that the University is cooperating with police in the matter. The University had no further comment.

Ilardi is scheduled to be arraigned on March 17 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
