Over the summer, Fairfield University implemented several changes to its campus.

These changes included repaved pathways and a covered area for students waiting to catch the Stag Bus. Everywhere you turn it seems you can spot something new and improved.

One of the most noticeable and exciting changes to our campus is the replacement of Jazzman’s Cafe with Einstein Bro’s Bagels in the Barone Campus Center. Even though classes have just started, Einstein Bro’s Bagels has already become popular with the student body.

I think Einstein Bro’s Bagels will be a good fit for Fairfield students. After looking at the menu, it is clear there are more options to choose from than Jazzman’s Café had to offer in previous years.

As a result of Einstein’s expanded menu, students who don’t want to use another swipe in the main cafeteria have another option. These food options include bagels, bagel sandwiches, breakfast sandwiches, coffee, espresso, salads, and many other items. In contrast, Jazzman’s menu offered a narrow choice of pastries, wrapped sandwiches, and coffee. Even though Jazzman’s did provide food for students to take on the run to their next class, it wasn’t as satisfying as it could have been. The food seemed bland. I always thought that the food Jazzman’s provided for students was good, but there could have always been room for improvement.

What about the food options after Barone closed last year at 7:30? Yes, The Stag stayed opened later on certain days, and there was Chef’s Table in the library that students could purchase food from, but despite this, it appeared as though there weren’t many exciting options for students once the main cafeteria closed for the night.

By contrast, Einstein’s remains open for longer periods of time during the week and is available on Saturday nights. The weekday hours are from 8:00 A.M. to 11:00 P.M. On Saturdays they will be serving the students from 8:00 P.M. to midnight.

Many students have shared their opinions about the newly acquired, convenient bagel shop…

Eric Salgado ‘14 expressed some positive outlooks about Einstein’s. “Yea definitely, there’s more variety, and the coffee tastes better.”

Taylor Trenchard ‘14 also has a similar outlook to the newly implemented bagel shop. She says, “The food and coffee taste a lot better, and I think this will ultimately be a great change for Fairfield students.”

Sean Dunphy ‘14 said, “I have seen a lot more food choices there and that really interests me.”

I think many students will agree with Eric, Taylor, and Sean that Einstein Bros. Bagels will ultimately prove to be popular with Fairfield students. Longer hours with a vastly improved menu will give students more choices. I would have to agree with Eric in that having more variety and better tasting coffee is what many students will look forward to this year.

I think that Einstein’s Bro’s Bagels will be a major success here at Fairfield and will be on campus for many years to come.

Count me as one of the new highly satisfied customers.
