Congratulations to Tim O’Toole, his staff and the mens’ basketball team for a solid season and an NIT bid. Until Tuesday’s NIT game at Harbor Yard, I’ve been embarrassed by the absence of student fans most of the games this season. On Tuesday I was embarrassed by their presence. It started with trying to drown out their introductions with “BC sucks” and it degenerated badly from there. How do you think you 500 tough-guys wouldhave ending up treating the one kid in the BC shirt if security didn’t step in? I’ve been to a hundred plus Big East games and I have never seen any of that nonsense. Timmy’s team conducts themselves with the class and style befitting a Jesuit university. Anybody detracting from that is no fan. Grow up.
