To The Editor:

Home court advantage used to mean something. It meant that when another team came into our gym, our court, our house, they were not leaving with a win. This past Wednesday, Marist come into our house to play a pivotal MAAC game. Both Marist and Fairfield were 5-1 in conference play. The winner of this game would take first place in the MAAC conference. The game was a must win for the Stags.

I was so disappointed when the “fans” in the student section acted like they couldn’t be bothered. As fans we need to have Harbor Yard so loud that the other team can’t call plays. When a big play goes down the fans should already be standing and cheering. Fans that come to the game shouldn’t feel forced to cheer, they should WANT to cheer. At Wednesday’s game, the Marist fans were louder than we were, with half as many people. How is that home court advantage? If supporting your team means standing only when the cheerleaders throw free t-shirts and leaving when the most important thirty seconds are yet to be played, then the Stags sure had a lot of support.

The season is not over yet. We can redeem ourselves. Our team is doing incredibly well this year and they would do even better if they had the enthusiastic support of the “Red Sea”. Hope to see everyone there and on their feet.

Sincerely,

The First Three Rows of the Student Section
