To the Editor:

I am absolutely appalled at the lack of responsibility the Mirror has taken concerning the article “Letters from London” by Meredith McKenna. Ms. McKenna’s piece was an insult to the international community, to the readers, and to the university itself. Her racist remarks, judgemental and stereotypical quips, and ignorant assertions only highlight the continuing problem of racism and ignorance in America and particularly in the Fairfield community. Further, the fact that this article was even allowed to appear in a school sponsored newspaper is disgusting. And finally, the complete disregard that the Mirror has for the students and readers who wrote in complaints against this article is astonishing. Ms. McKenna’s remarks were completely offensive, and had little, if any, basis is truth whatsoever. While reading her piece it is easy to wonder whether Ms. McKenna has actually spent any time in London, or has interacted with an actual British citizen. I am severely diappointed and outraged at the university’s lack of concern regarding offensive, racist, and discriminatory remarks in campus publications. Ms. McKenna is entitled to her opinion, but Fairfield should be ashamed to lend its name to any publication that contains this type of racist drivel.
