With Halloween weekend looking more like Christmas break, Fairfield dealt with resulting issues immediately and we couldn’t have been happier.

The heavy, wet snow was not ideal for going out on Halloween. Costumes were definitely not winter ready and the roads looked less than appealing to trek to the townhouses or to the beach.

Despite the unfortunate weather, Fairfield University was out in force. Plows were sent out, salt was laid down and Public Safety was there to help. As soon as the snow started to fall, the plows were around making the hopes of going out for Halloween just a little better (and the heat was finally fixed in 51 McInnes Road, as well as the AC finally being fully turned off in 42 Mahan Road).

When the power went out in the townhouses, Public Safety did not delay and neither did Residence Life. A damper was put on the townhouse parties but Public Safety walked around the blocks that lost power alerting the residents. They gave them instructions regarding what was going on, which was supplemented by Residence Life emails about what students should do in the event that power remained out.

Free meals from Barone were given to students (saving them from having to spend money by ordering in) who did not have power in the townhouses and Residence Life was ready to give different living arrangements for the time being for students.

Residents could have been left in the dark (literally), especially since it was the weekend but the University took charge. We commend them for taking action immediately. Although it would have been nice if they could have turned the power back on for those students looking for a second night of Halloween celebrating…
