The men’s and women’s cross country teams traveled to Montgomery, N.Y. on the Twin Ponds on the Farm course to participate in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championship. 

The men’s team placed eighth out of the 13 teams that competed, falling 10 points behind Mount St. Mary’s and beat ninth place Manhattan College by 37 points. Iona took home the crown with a dominant performance having runners in each of the top five spots and in 10 of the top 12. This was their 34th straight MAAC men’s cross country championship. They beat second place Rider by 58 points on their way to victory. 

Junior Ryan Lindley was the first Stag to complete the 8k race with a time of 25:45.1 placing 44th in the field. Following Lindley was Gabriel Montoya ‘28 who placed 53rd with a time of 25:53.7. Freshman George Hohenleitner and Olli Muniz ‘27 finished within seven seconds of each other with Hohenleitner placing 65th with a time of 26:06.2 with Muniz following closely behind placing 70th. Rounding out the men’s Stags was Bryce Robinson ‘28 who placed 94th with a time of 26:38.4. Each of the men’s Stags that competed set a new personal best for the 8k race. 

The women’s team had similar results finishing in ninth place in the 13 team field. The Stags were led by Hannah Snayd ‘28 who led the entire 156 runner field in the 6k race with a time of 20:36.3 beating the second place finisher by roughly nine seconds. The time was Snyad’s personal best and it was the first time a Stag crossed the finish line first in a women’s cross country MAAC Championship. Her performance earned her the MAAC Most Outstanding Runner and Rookie of the Year honors. 

Following Snayd was Mia Strazzella ‘27 who placed 19th and finished with a time of 21:45.5. Freshman Catherine Gobo placed 60th with a time of 22:38.1. The freshman duo of Devan Gambello and Sophia Cheesman finished 71st and 73rd respectively with times of 23:00.6 and 20:06.4. 

Quinnipiac took home the crown led by second place finisher Alessandra Zaffina. They beat second place Iona by 37 points with five of the top 12 finishers in the race.

The men’s and women’s cross country teams will get back on the course traveling to the Hopkinton State Fairgrounds in Contoocook, New Hampshire on Friday, Nov.15th to compete in the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship.
