Over the weekend, the Stags took down Old Dominion, a well-respected mid-major program, 59-51 in Springfield, MA. Fairfield headed back home and proved to be victorious against UNH by a score of 58-52 at the Arena at Harbor Yard.

The improved play of junior Derek Needham has been essential for the Stags success, scoring a combined 34 points in the two games over the weekend. Against UNH, Needham received plenty of help from senior big man Ryan Olander, the two players together shot 14 of 18 from the field which included four three-point baskets.

Along with a more focused offensive effort, the Stags are still strong as ever on the defensive side of the ball. The Stags held UNH to a season-low 52 points, the seventh time in 11 games that they’ve held the opposition to a season-low in scoring.

Fairfield will have to take advantage of a upcoming to be ready for the nationally 9th ranked UConn Huskies. The defending national champions have a number of different weapons, including the team leading rebounding Tyler Olander, the brother of Stag’s center Ryan Olander.
