Coming into Sunday’s game versus Siena, it was clear that Fairfield baseball was in need of a spark to help put an end to its six-game losing streak. They got it in the form of starting pitcher Ed Kamintsky ’07.

Kamintsky led the Stags to an impressive 8-2 victory at Alumni Diamond by no-hitting the Saints over the first seven innings of his outing. His no-hit bid came to an end during the top of the eighth inning.

“This was such a huge win for us,” said Kamintsky, who was pulled in the ninth inning after giving up only four hits and two earned runs for the game. “I was able to keep my pitches low against Siena’s batters and our hitters did a great job of getting some runs for me early.”

They certainly did. The Stags jumped out to a 3-0 lead through the first six innings, thanks in large part to the hitting of first baseman John Scaife ’06. Scaife drove in all three runs, two of which came on a long home run during the bottom half of the sixth.

The Stags continued their impressive hitting display an inning later, scoring five runs on four hits in the bottom of the seventh. Doug Anderson ’06 tripled home two runs during the frame.

“We needed those big innings,” said Head Coach John Slosar. “They gave us a bunch of runs and we were able to feel comfortable.”

This week, the Stags look to add to their six overall wins this season. They travel Tuesday to play a game against UConn and head to New Haven Wednesday for a doubleheader against Yale.
