The Fairfield University softball team has struggled out of the gate this season, falling 3-5 against the University of Hartford and 5-13 against Stony Brook University.

Although the Stags were supposed to face off against the Stony Brook Seawolves twice that day, the second game got canceled a little less than halfway through due to heavy rain.

They began their season with multiple tournaments in various parts of the nation such as the Wolfpack Classic hosted by North Carolina State University, The USF Tournament hosted by the University of South Florida, and the Thundering Herd Invite hosted by Marshall University.

To end their tournament slate, they met some familiar faces in the Rutgers University tournament, such as the College of the Holy Cross and Stony Brook University.

On Wednesday, March 23, however, their official regular season kicked off against the University of Hartford. Katie Kudlacik ‘22 pitched the first four frames of the game according to the official box score.

In the fifth inning, Hartford was able to break the a 3-3 tie with a two-run score, propelling them to a 5-3 lead that would ultimately give them the victory over the visiting Stags.

Against Stony Brook, the Stags were able to show some solid offense. A home run by Allie Bridgman ‘24 solidified the Stags’ offense as they were able to take a 5-1 lead over the Seawolves.

According to the game’s official recap, the Seawolves equalized with five runs of their own. With a solo home run, yet another five-run streak, and one more runner finding home base, the Seawolves finished the game with a final score of 13-5.

The team will next host Yale University on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at 3 p.m. You can watch the game on Stags Sports Network or attend the game in person.
