We should have known all along this was going to happen. This year’s World Series match-up features the New York Yankees against the Philadelphia Phillies: the defending champions taking on the team with the infinite payroll, a new stadium, and the most to prove to the fans. It is a series showcasing two of the best offensive teams from their respective leagues. These teams are led by Alex Rodriguez and Ryan Howard, who each tied Lou Gehrig’s record for consecutive post-season games with an RBI (eight) this October. It is a match-up that will also feature former Cleveland Indians teammates Cliff Lee and ALCS MVP C.C Sabathia pitching in Game 1, it’s amazing to see how far each of them has come. It is the New Jersey Turnpike Series:it is going to be cold, intense, and full of home runs in ballparks where the ball carries. No team has a real definitive edge in offense, defense, pitching, or base-running. However, if A-Rod and Mariano Rivera keep on performing at the level they are at, New York should come out on top. Despite this, as a member of Red Sox Nation I have temporarily become a Phillies fan. So my prediction is an easy one, Phillies in seven games and Pedro Martinez will be World Series MVP. So to all you baseball fans here at Fairfield, I know it’s frustrating if you are not a Yankee fan, but be sure to tune in. This series has the potential to be one for the ages.
