Heart pounding, blood-curdling and stomach queasy, the feeling of being watched is something that just can’t be shaken. Whether you embark on a haunted hayride, explore a ghoulish manor or find yourself quickening your step on the way back from a late night class (who knows what creatures—or turkeys, lurk), experiencing a fright or two can be a great way to spend the Halloween season.

The town of Fairfield may seem like the perfect place to experience a picturesque “Gilmore Girls” fall, with numerous shops, restaurants and places to grab a fun fall drink, but there are also many events to help get your scare on.

Fairfield Museum and History Center is located just a six-minute drive from campus and provides many exhibitions, programs and events to help connect the Fairfield community. On Oct. 27 from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., the Museum will be holding its 8th annual Halloween on the Green event! Bring your best costume, gather on the Museum Commons and participate in Halloween-themed activities. Trick-or-treating, giveaways, food and, most importantly, a bounce house will be included.

Located in Fairfield, Harvest Fest After Dark provides just the right amount of spook for those who still wish to fall asleep seamlessly that night. With a haunted hay-ride, a not-so-fun house and an eerie asylum, this event is the perfect way to spend any October night.

Got any furry friends looking for a Halloween fright? Dogtopia, located just over a mile from campus is a doggy daycare center that gives a man’s best friend the purrrfect playtime opportunities. Starting on Oct. 25 Dogtopia is celebrating the spooky season with a whole week of furry festivities! This Friday your pup can enjoy a haunted obstacle course: why not let them in on the fun? On Oct. 29 a trick-or-treat event will be held, and it’s up to them whether or not they experience more treats or tricks! Who doesn’t love dressing their dog in a cute little costume? Oct. 31 Dogtopia will be hosting a costume contest to conclude their week of wonderful activities.

Staying on theme with cute creatures, the tigers at Bridgeport’s Beardsley Zoo won’t be the only thing making guests feel uneasy this October. On Oct. 26 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. will be hosting special Halloween-themed activities! From seasonal treats to storytimes to cool critters this event is sure to provide the perfect spooky experience.

For those searching for something a little more frightening than spooktacular costumes and treats, Lake Compounce’s Phantom Fest is sure to give you a run for your stagbucks. Spend all day thrill-seeking on intense rides such as “Phobia Fear Coaster” and all night exploring the haunted horrors that await in the darkness. Along with season classics “mAlice in Wonderland” and “MediEvil”, two new sinister haunts find their way onto the lake grounds. “Bloodcraft” challenges those who are brave to escape a maze of darkness and evil, while “Malignant: Overgrown Evil” takes its victims into an overgrown garden of undead terror.

Located in Stamford, Blood Manor crowns itself as Connecticut’s premier haunted attraction. As seen on Jimmy Fallon in 2016, the lost souls who enter the horrid manor find themselves experiencing hair-raising encounters with cursed creatures and restless spirits trapped inside, leaving them questioning whether they will end up trapped too.
