Fans of comedy, sports and theater are in luck: the world-renown Reduced Shakespeare Company will be performing their comedy sketch “The Complete World of Sports (abridged)” at the Quick Center this Friday, March 2 at 8 p.m.

Written and directed by Reed Martin and Austin Tichenor, the promotion video brags that this farcical performance will cover “every sport every played on every continent in the entire history of the world in under two hours.”

Quite the claim, but if the promo is anything to judge by, the team seems to have delivered. Their performance will cover sports ranging from baseball and football to Pac-Man and Quidditch.

The troupe uses a combination of slapstick, satire and wit to deliver comedies that have been called “pithier than Python” by the New York Times and “the funniest act in show business” by ABC Radio.

The Reduced Shakespeare Company was founded in California in 1981 as a pass-the-hat act, but they have since become an internationally celebrated group. Their repertoire includes stage performances, radio pieces and television specials.

Some of their previous comedies include “Completely Hollywood (abridged),” during which they crammed 197 of Hollywood’s most famous movies into a single performance, and, for the history buffs, “Western Civilization: The Complete History (abridged).”

In spite of the show title, this Friday’s performance isn’t only for sports fans. “If you like sports, you’ll like this show,” claims the promotion video, “and if you couldn’t care less about sports, you’ll love this show.”

Tickets range from $25-35 and can be purchased at the Quick Center Box Office or online at www.fairfield.edu/quick. The box office can be reached at (203) 254-4020 for further questions or inquiries.
