Halloween is approaching fast, the perfect opportunity for kitchen creativity! With spooky themes, and vibrant greens, purples and oranges, it provides you with the chance to bake interesting and delicious treats. Here are some of my favorite spooky desserts for the holiday
Worms in Dirt
An instant crowd-pleaser, this dessert is as fun to make as it is to eat! Start by creating a whipped pudding mixture using milk and your favorite pudding mix. Next, crush Oreos into fine crumbs for the “dirt” texture. In a clear jar or trifle, layer the chocolate pudding with the Oreo crumbs, alternating the layers. Finish with a layer of the crushed cookies and top with a few gummy worms, or gummy snakes as Catherine Fleming ‘27 suggests!

Haunting Chocolate-Covered Strawberries
One of my favorite things to make during any season is chocolate-covered strawberries. However, during Halloween, they can take a spooky turn! The best tip I have learned about melting chocolate is to put the candy melts in the microwave for short intervals of time and stir in between. This extra step ensures a silky chocolate finish that clings perfectly to the strawberries. You can also use an assortment of candy melts colors. Be creative by adding ghostly faces, spiderwebs, jack-o-lanterns or three-eyed monsters. Let your imagination run wild!

Spider Cookies
Not only delicious, these cookies are also some of the cutest desserts you will ever see! Start by baking your favorite cookie recipe. Once cooled, place an upside-down miniature Reese’s peanut butter cup on each cookie to form the spider’s body. Using brown frosting, pipe eight legs from beneath the base of the chocolate cup. For the final touch, add edible eyes or make your own with frosting!

Pumpkin Everything!
Pumpkin-flavored delights are a Halloween staple. Whether it’s pumpkin ice cream – Sophomores Reiley Walsh and Grace Tyszka favorites – or pumpkin muffins and cookies, the options seem endless. One of the quickest and easiest recipes is pumpkin spice muffins. Combine canned pumpkin puree with a spice cake mix, and bake according to the box instructions. For an extra touch of sweetness, create a simple powdered sugar glaze. The best part is it only takes three ingredients: powdered sugar, milk and vanilla!

Inspired by Taylor Swift, these chai sugar cookies are infused with warm fall spices and hints of vanilla, creating a rich, buttery taste. Although they require a bit more effort, the reward is well worth it. Top them off with a nutmeg glaze for added sweetness and spice. They are the perfect treat to share with family and friends during the holiday season. Adding decorations to the top of the cookies is an amazing way to elevate the Halloween appeal.
