Freshmen cannot have cars, but alternatives abound

Perhaps the only truly bad thing about being a freshman at Fairfield is that your car rights are revoked and you flashback to those times when you had to beg mom and dad to take you around. Not that being on campus is a bad thing, but there is life off campus that is worth exploring.

Ahead of the class

Fairfield's orientation program for incoming freshmen has always been more than the traditional two-days-then-you're-on-your-own plan. This year the Orientation Board is using a system adopted a year ago, but which was wildly successful in comparison to those used in past years.

Challenging Fairfield’s fund-amentals

About a month ago, I received an invitation from an organization asking me to be part of a committee that will collect money from my class when we become seniors. The money will be donated to the school in the form of a "gift." Correct me if I'm wrong, but a gift is not solicited.

Kegs – the great equalizer

by Chris Zeitz Spam Jam this year happened in and around my townhouse. In fact, there were hoses and maintenance workers streaming in and out throughout the day-more so than usual. The day's festivities featured a performance by White Noise and food in plentiful quantities.

A graduating senior’s tips for enjoying F.U.

F our years of college, damn that was fast. Why do good times always have to go quickly and crappy times take forever? My only advice to the undergrads is to enjoy every moment because before you know it, you'll be on an eight-day drinking bender during finals in your last semester.

Debating the real issues

For the past three years I've had the feeling that there needs to be more debate on campus at Fairfield. I'm still feeling that after watching the College Republicans and Democrats debate each other last Monday. I commend both clubs for attempting to raise the intellectual discourse of students by organizing the debate, but I think the event fell short of the advertised intent of "debating the issues that really matter.

Senioritis…. and intramural softball

by Chris Zeitz My topic for this week was senioritis. But I am so apathetic right now, I can't even write about senioritis. So, I'll write about intramural softball. Yet it should be noted that softball can teach us something concerning college life. So, to take a page from those absurd Wachovia commercials-that compare financial planners to reputable diners -What can intramural softball teach you about the last few days of your senior year? You only need to work hard for a couple of hours.
