Beginning a season with a tough non-conference schedule can prime a team for conference play, for Fairfield women's field hockey it may have done just that. Despite a slow start to the season, the team has stepped up and won three of their last four conference games.

Feelings were riding high for Fairfield's field hockey team coming into this season, after they lost last year by a goal and finished second in the NEC Championship Game. The team carried that small success over to the season opener by defeating UMass 2-1 in Amherst, Mass.

Two seasons after winning the Patriot League and earning a trip to the NCAA tournament, the Fairfield University women's field hockey team has been sent packing from the league. After eight seasons as an associate member of the Patriot League, the field hockey team's contract has been cancelled following the 2003 season, forcing the team to relocate to another athletic conference.

by Scott Apuzzo The field hockey team split two games over the weekend, but clinched a spot in the Northeast Conference tournament in their inaugural season in the conference. Fairfield locked up a playoff berth with a 6-0 victory over last place St. Francis last Friday.
