PRESS RELEASE
After spending a year at the helm of The Mirror, the 29th editorial board has relinquished the reins of the newspaper, making way for the paper’s 30th editorial board. This is the first issue published by The Mirror’s 30th editorial board.
The newspaper’s departing Editor in Chief, Ethan L. Fry ’04, said that he has full confidence in the paper’s new staff.
“We had so many talented people apply to the newspaper’s positions for next year,” said Fry. “This new staff is even more talented than the previous one, which will help ensure the paper’s constant growth and expansion.”
“They’ll do a bang-up job,” Fry added.
The Mirror’s new Editor in Chief, Steven M. Andrews ’05, said that he also has high hopes for the new staff.
“I’m very excited about the limitless potential of the incoming staff,” said Andrews. “We have a great opportunity – and responsibility – to the Fairfield community to keep everyone informed and aware of the constantly evolving environment around them.”
Along with Andrews at the top of the newspaper’s new masthead are Ashleigh Egan ’05 and Tara Lynch ’06, the paper’s new managing editors. Egan was formerly the paper’s assistant news editor and Lynch previously held the title of entertainment editor.
Also new to the newspaper’s masthead is News Editor Megan Mahoney ’05, Campus Life Editor Kelly Sheehan ’06, Tara Touloumis ’06 as entertainment editor, Eileen Arnold ’05 as editor of the commentary section, and Sports Editor Bryan Mahoney ’05.
Joining the new staff are Copy Editors Elizabeth Cooper ’06 and Meghan Doherty ’05. Brian Lynch ’07 will take control of a new title for the newspaper, layout editor, and William McBain ’07 will be the paper’s online editor. Christopher Donato ’05 will be the paper’s new photography editor.
Managing Editor emeritus Keith B. Whamond ’04 said that he was positive the new staff will duly fulfill their enormous responsibility to the Fairfield community.
“Working at The Mirror was a great honor for me,” said Whamond,
“The staff of a college newspaper bears the task of bringing to light certain subjects which students aren’t going to hear anywhere else. We tried to do that, and the new staff will as well,” added Whamond.
Andrews also expressed remorse at the loss of the paper’s departing seniors in addition to Fry and Whamond: Copy Editor Christopher F. Zeitz, Campus Life Editor Laura Pfeifer, Commentary Editor Gwen Nolan, Sports Editor Kristine Lynch, and Photography Editor Carleigh Brower.
However, Andrews hopes that the paper’s new staff will continue the paper’s constant forward progression.
“We’ve got a great group of people,” said Andrews. “Every year, The Mirror gets better and better, and I know that we will live up to that responsibility.”
