BRIDGEPORT – It wasn’t pretty, but Head Coach Dianne Nolan got her 499th career win Friday night, as her Stags beat Saint Peter’s 69-64 and halted a three-game losing streak.
The Stags turned the ball over 22 times and looked out of sync on offense for much of the game, but they forced 23 Peahens turnovers and hit their free-throws down the stretch, improving to 8-10 overall and 5-4 in the MAAC.
Sabra Wrice ’08 led four Stags in double figures with a game-high 20 points. Baendu Lowenthal ’09 had 12 points before fouling out, Candace Lindsay ’07 had 13 and Cara Murphy ’06 added 11.
Murphy struggled for much of the game, committing eight turnovers. But her most meaningful statistic may have been her free-throw percentage. She was seven-for-nine from the line, and hit four big free-throws down the stretch to secure the victory and put her coach on the threshold of a milestone.
Nolan goes for win No. 500 Sunday when the Stags play at Rider at 2 p.m.
