Reality TV is on a spectrum of being acceptable and somewhat trashy.

Between Bravo, TLC, MTV and streaming services adopting shows, there is a strong variety of reality TV to watch. Some iconic reality TV shows we’ve all heard of are
“What Would You Do?,” “The Bachelor,” “The Bachelorette,” “Jersey Shore” and “Say Yes to the Dress,” all equally as drama-filled and long-lasting as the next.

There are many categories of reality TV shows to watch, but my all-time favorite has to be “Keeping Up with the Kardashians.” The newer version on Hulu “The Kardashians” is brimming with the same amount of drama. Kim, Khloé, Kourtney, Kendall and Kylie along with their “momager” Kris always bring the right amount of fun energy but great gossip for their viewers, who have been watching them since the premiere of “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” in October of 2007.

Though they are not known for any specific talent, I have to say their most talentful ability is entertaining audiences with their everyday lives in Calabasas, California. While people either love or hate them, at the end of the day it’s just a fun show to be able to watch with friends to see just how wild their lives really are, between extreme highs and devastating lows. I think their show is my favorite because it became something my mom, sister and I would watch to see their lives even if it is through a highly edited superficial lens of Ryan Seacrest.

Along with reality shows being about a family or a group of people, there are also shows that focus on love. A very popular one this summer was “Love Island USA” on Peacock, hosted by “Vanderpump Rules” star Ariana Maddix. Twelve single men and women travel to Fiji for a summer of a lifetime. After coupling up the pairs play fun challenges and games to test their connection, but the drama comes when there is a recoupling every few weeks causing someone to inevitably go home, but bringing in a new “bombshell” occasionally to test everyone’s loyalty.

“Love Island USA” was the reality show of the summer, capturing audiences not only in the United States but all over the globe!

Equally along with girls, guys are fascinated with reality TV! “Survivor,” and “Big Brother” were among the shows my friends enjoyed watching.

Freshman Maeve Cronin says her favorite show is  “Vanderpump Rules” following the life of Lisa Vanderpump and her restaurant SUR, and “The Real Housewives” trailing the out-of-touch and attention-grabbing women of Beverly Hills. She gushed while watching “Vanderpump Rules”.

“Each character has such complexity and you love to hate each one of them.”

Cronin is a reality TV show connoisseur and loves to talk about them and find new ones too!

When I asked her what brought her in as a fan of Vanderpump she said, “Scandoval brought me in as a fan, but each season is filled with crazy plotlines and unorthodox relationships between all of the cast members.”

The reality TV realm is overflowing with opportunities for new people to watch, cringe, and ultimately laugh at all together!
