Halloween is quickly approaching and it’s time to start planning and purchasing costumes for this year’s festivities! Whether you plan to have three to four different costumes for each night of Halloweekend or if you like keeping it simple with a DIY costume, I have some recommendations and predictions for this year’s hottest trends. From iconic solo costumes to inclusive group ideas and even classic duo fits, there are options for everyone!
A trend I expect to see a lot of this season is Glinda and Elphaba from the “Wicked” franchise. This duo costume would be so easy to recreate with one in green and black with the traditional witch hat and the other in pink and sparkles with a crown or wand. With the popularity of the movie last year and the upcoming sequel you can expect to see many witch duos. The twins from “The Shining” is another fun and recognizable costume for a duet that can be cute and creepy.
This year’s it-girl costume is projected to be Indiana Jones. Sporting brown leather mini shorts with matching boots, a hat and accessories, this niche yet cool fit is supposed to be iconic and well done this year. Another solo idea that is on the rise is Marie Antoinette. Deck yourself out in pastels, pearls and ruffles for an unique but recognizable infamous historical figure. A simple yet timeless solo costume will always be Catwoman. You can dress in all black and a cat ear headband, it will do the trick and everyone will know who you are. Bugs are another trend this year. You can anticipate many ladybugs, as polka dots have been the reigning pattern of 2025 and look out for a few buzzing bees as well. These are easy, cute and could likely be done on a low budget as you only need a few items including some on theme wings.
A costume I would love to see this year is the M&M characters. With many color options your friends could choose who you align with and get matching shirts with the logo on the front and rock it with any bottom from jeans to a mini skirt with knee high boots. It’s versatile, comfortable and not overdone. The quintessential green and brown M&M’s are the most iconic female characters of the bunch. They are perfect for a cool girl Halloween costume with the white gloves and GoGo boots or cat eye glasses.
A group costume forecasted to kill this spooky season is Barden Bellas from the 2012 hit movie “Pitch Perfect.” Easy and classic, this group costume leaves the inclusive space to invite all your friends into the costume without fear of leaving people out due to character option limits. Resembling a flight attendant with short navy skirts and a yellow necktie this acapella group is a perfect group option.
The beach party on the Saturday of Halloweekend is typically about funny and silly costumes. You can expect to see many traffic cones and inflatable suits at the beach this year, just like previous years. You may see some dressed as Captain Underpants, flourishing with their red capes and comfy undergarment-like shorts. Another great one is the Lorax, if you want to rock an orange body suit and a yellow mustache speaking for the trees. Whether you go funny and scary or silly yet cute, bring on the humorous costumes for that Saturday.
Overall there are so many simple yet unique options, including some that could be pulled together the day of if you are in need of a last minute costume. We can’t wait to see all your creative and cute costumes and hope some of you try out some of these recommendations. Happy spooky season!
