Sabrina Carpenter has become a household name in recent years, with her pop hits climbing the charts and tour completely selling out.
Sabrina first gained popularity in the public eye starring in the Disney Channel show “Girl Meets World,” which ran from 2014 to 2017. During this time, she released two albums, “Eyes Wide Open” and “Evolution,” which made me a fan of hers instantly.
Many other actors put out music during their Disney Channel days, but Carpenter’s always stuck out to me. I remember absolutely adoring her lyrics, and her energy captivated me from the start. I’ve continued to be a huge fan, keeping up with Sabrina’s next few album releases. Her 2022 album “Emails I Can’t Send” was particularly a favorite of mine and has some of my favorite tracks ever on it.
So, as soon as Sabrina announced the “Short n’ Sweet” tour, an homage to her album released in August, I was determined to secure tickets. To my surprise, my sister was able to purchase presale tickets in June for a reasonable price. I felt so lucky and overwhelmingly excited, and my countdown to Oct. 2 began immediately.
When I arrived at the concert location this past Wednesday, which was the XL Center in Hartford, I could tell that many fans had gone with a similar vibe and color scheme for their outfits. Sabrina has very much branded the aesthetic of her “Short n’ Sweet” era, diving into pastel colors, bows, and hearts. Many fans followed suit with this theme and I saw heaps of Pinterest-worthy ensembles. Others took a more creative and humorous approach; one memorable outfit I saw was a barista apron with “that’s that me espresso,” a lyric from the hit “Espresso” printed on it.
I think that this image Sabrina has made for herself is one of the reasons she has been so successful; she keeps a fun, youthful and energetic vibe in all of her outfits, music videos and interviews. I was so happy to see that she brought these qualities to her tour.
To put it in a nutshell, the concert was absolutely incredible. Sabrina performs phenomenally live, and I was blown away by her vocals. She also had excellent choreography and background dancers, pulling off a whole production. She sang songs from her two most recent albums, all of which the audience knew by heart.
Marina Chiaro ‘26 also attended Sabrina’s Hartford show on Oct 2.
“I loved the whole performance, I think she has amazing stage presence and was able to connect with the audience even though the venues of this tour have been so much larger than her last tour,” she states.
For reference, there was a crowd of over 16,000 in Hartford last night and many of the other stadiums she will perform at seat even more people. Despite not having the best seats in the house, I didn’t feel like I was missing out on anything and the big screens provided a close-up view.
It was clear how much attention to detail Sabrina and her team put into the tour. Everything seemed very thought-out and intentional, from the costumes and props to the lights and song order.
“I loved the stage set up and how she had custom visuals during costume changes that were inspired by the retro slumber party vibe of the tour,” Chiaro shared.
Videos were displayed on the screens during short breaks to keep the audience entertained, and they were such a fun addition to the show. Even after the concert had ended, the screens played a closing video that Sabrina had prerecorded, which was such a cute touch.
To me, the “Short n’ Sweet” tour solidifies Sabrina Carpenter as one of the biggest pop stars of today. I had the time of my life singing my heart out to all of my favorite songs, and it’s clear by the success of the tour that other fans can’t wait to do the same.
It was such a full-circle moment to see a singer I grew up with in concert. I feel like I’ve witnessed her journey to stardom. Despite being the “Short n’ Sweet” tour, my memories of the night will last a lifetime.
